Reviews & Content Policy

Effective: August 8, 2026Last updated: August 8, 2026

Reviews and user-generated content are at the heart of Jigu Bites. This Reviews & Content Policy explains what users and restaurants may publish, how reviews are expected to work, when content may be removed, how businesses can respond, and how Jigu Bites may handle disputes involving reviews and other content.

This Policy applies to restaurant reviews, ratings, review photographs, user posts, comments, restaurant responses, restaurant photographs, and other user-generated content.

This Policy should be read together with the Terms of Service, Community Guidelines, and Privacy Policy.

1. The Purpose of Reviews

Jigu Bites reviews are intended to help people understand other users' experiences with restaurants. Reviews may discuss food, taste, quality, portions, price, service, staff experience, atmosphere, cleanliness, waiting time, accessibility, value, and overall experience. Different people can have completely different experiences at the same restaurant. A review does not need to be positive to be legitimate. A negative review does not automatically violate this Policy.

2. Reviews Should Be Based on Genuine Experiences

Reviews should represent a user's genuine experience, knowledge, or clearly identified opinion. You should not submit a review if you have no reasonable basis for the claims you are making.

Generally acceptable:“I visited this restaurant last weekend and thought the service was slow.”
Not acceptable:Creating a review about a restaurant you have never visited simply to damage its reputation.

3. Honest Opinions Are Welcome

Jigu Bites does not require users to be positive. Users may express opinions about any aspect of their experience. Opinions may be subjective, and a restaurant should not expect every customer to have the same opinion.

4. Reviews Must Not Be Fabricated

You must not knowingly publish a review based on an experience that did not occur. Examples include inventing a restaurant visit or meal, creating fake complaints or praise, posting reviews for competitors without a genuine experience, or paying someone to create fake reviews. Jigu Bites may remove reviews that we reasonably determine are fraudulent or fabricated.

5. No Review Manipulation

Users and businesses must not attempt to manipulate restaurant ratings or rankings. Prohibited behavior includes:

  • Creating multiple accounts to increase or decrease a rating.
  • Coordinating fake review campaigns.
  • Buying or selling reviews.
  • Offering money specifically for positive or negative reviews.
  • Threatening users to change ratings.
  • Asking employees to artificially inflate ratings.
  • Asking competitors to artificially lower ratings.

6. Restaurant Employees and Owners

Restaurant owners, employees, representatives, and other individuals closely associated with a restaurant should not submit reviews designed to artificially influence the restaurant's public rating. Where someone has a relevant relationship with a restaurant, they should not misrepresent themselves as an independent customer. Jigu Bites may remove or restrict reviews where there is a material undisclosed conflict of interest.

7. Competitors

A restaurant or its representatives must not create reviews of competing restaurants for the purpose of manipulating their reputation. Legitimate personal experiences are different from coordinated competitive manipulation.

8. Incentivized Reviews

Restaurants may provide legitimate incentives such as discounts, complimentary food or drinks, or other benefits in connection with customers sharing their experience, where permitted by applicable law. However, incentives must not require a particular rating or favorable opinion.

Permitted in principle:“Try our new dish and tell us honestly what you think.”
Not permitted:“Give us five stars and receive a free dish.”

Where required, users must disclose that they received an incentive. Jigu Bites may add labels or require additional disclosure for incentivized content.

9. Reviews Should Not Be Extortion

Users must not threaten a restaurant with a negative review in exchange for money, free food, refunds, discounts, special treatment, or other benefits.

“Give me a refund or I will post a one-star review.”

Users may, however, honestly describe a negative experience and separately seek a legitimate resolution from the restaurant.

10. Reviews Should Not Be Used as Personal Attacks

Criticism of a restaurant is allowed. Personal attacks against individuals are not. Avoid threats, harassment, abusive personal attacks, sexual harassment, doxxing, publishing private information, or calls for others to attack someone. Focus criticism on the experience, service, food, business, or other relevant subject matter.

11. Factual Claims

Users may share factual observations based on their experience. However, you should take reasonable care before making serious factual accusations. Do not knowingly publish false allegations involving criminal conduct, fraud, abuse, serious misconduct, health or safety violations, or other serious wrongdoing.

“I found a foreign object in my meal.” This describes an experience.
“This restaurant deliberately poisons its customers.” This is an unsupported serious accusation.

12. Photos Attached to Reviews

Users may upload photographs relating to their restaurant experiences. Photos should relate reasonably to the restaurant or experience, be content you have the right to upload, respect people's privacy, and follow the Community Guidelines. Do not intentionally upload stolen photographs, private documents, payment information, personal information, content designed to harass someone, illegal content, or malicious material.

13. Restaurant Photos

Claimed or authorized restaurants may upload photographs to their business profiles. Restaurants should only upload content they have the right to use and are responsible for ensuring that submitted content does not infringe copyright, privacy, trademark, or other rights.

14. Editing Reviews

Jigu Bites allows users to edit reviews after publication. Users may correct mistakes, spelling, details, ratings, opinions, or other portions of their review. An edited review may display an "Edited" indicator. Jigu Bites does not currently provide a public revision history. However, technical records may be retained where reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, moderation, legal compliance, investigations, or platform integrity.

15. Review Deletion

Users may be able to delete their own reviews where the relevant functionality is available. Jigu Bites may also remove reviews where we reasonably determine that they violate these Terms, this Policy, Community Guidelines, applicable law, or platform integrity requirements. A review should not be removed merely because a restaurant dislikes a negative opinion.

16. Restaurants Cannot Pay to Remove Genuine Negative Reviews

Jigu Bites does not sell the removal of legitimate negative reviews. A restaurant may respond to a review, report a review that violates policy, request review of potentially fraudulent content, or provide evidence relevant to a moderation decision. However, purchasing advertising or promoted placement does not provide a right to remove negative reviews.

17. Restaurant Responses

Claimed and appropriately authorized restaurants may respond publicly to reviews. Responses should remain professional, address the customer's concerns, correct factual inaccuracies where appropriate, and avoid revealing private customer information, threatening reviewers, or manipulating the reviewer. A restaurant's response is separate from the user's original review.

18. Review Disputes

A restaurant may dispute a review if it believes the review is fraudulent, was posted by someone who did not have the claimed experience, contains prohibited content, contains serious factual allegations that require review, was created through manipulation, violates another person's rights, or otherwise violates Jigu Bites policies. A restaurant should provide relevant information or evidence when submitting a dispute.

19. How Jigu Bites Handles Review Disputes

Jigu Bites may review the review itself, the account involved, relevant public information, reports, platform activity, available technical information, and information supplied by the restaurant or reviewer. We may contact relevant parties where appropriate. The outcome may include keeping the review, removing it, restricting visibility, adding a label, requesting additional information, taking action against an account, or taking no action. We do not guarantee a particular outcome.

20. Evidence and Verification

Jigu Bites may request additional information when investigating suspected manipulation or serious violations. However, we do not require users to publicly disclose sensitive personal information simply because a restaurant disputes their review. Information submitted during an investigation will be handled according to applicable privacy practices.

21. Privacy During Review Investigations

We respect the privacy of users and restaurants. A restaurant does not automatically have the right to receive a reviewer's private email address, private messages, private account information, authentication information, internal security information, or other confidential information. Jigu Bites may disclose information only where appropriate, authorized, or required by applicable law.

22. Public Reviews and Private Profiles

Reviews are public. A user may choose to make their social profile private, but their published restaurant reviews remain publicly visible as intended by the platform. Private profile settings do not convert a published review into private content.

23. Anonymous or Limited Identity Display

Jigu Bites may modify how a reviewer's identity is displayed in certain circumstances. For example, if an account is deactivated, its reviews may remain available while the account is anonymized or otherwise hidden according to Jigu Bites' account-deactivation practices. This helps preserve useful restaurant information while respecting account status.

24. Review Ranking

Jigu Bites may determine how reviews are displayed using factors such as recency, relevance, helpfulness, engagement, authenticity signals, platform integrity signals, and other technical factors. The exact ranking system may change. Jigu Bites does not guarantee that every review will receive equal visibility.

25. Ratings

Ratings are intended to represent the user's genuine assessment of their experience. Users must not artificially increase or decrease ratings, coordinate rating manipulation, use multiple accounts to influence ratings, or trade ratings for benefits. Jigu Bites may detect and remove suspicious rating activity.

26. Suspicious Review Activity

Jigu Bites may use automated systems, statistical analysis, moderation tools, and human review to identify potentially suspicious behavior. Signals may include unusual account activity, review or rating patterns, posting frequency, account relationships, device or technical activity, and coordinated behavior. The presence of a signal does not automatically mean that a review is fake. Jigu Bites may use multiple factors before taking action.

27. Automated Systems

Jigu Bites may use automated technologies to help detect spam, identify suspicious reviews, detect abusive content, protect accounts, detect fraud, prioritize reports, and improve moderation. Automated systems may make mistakes. Where appropriate, Jigu Bites may use human review to investigate significant or disputed cases.

28. Posts and Other User Content

The same general standards apply to posts, comments, lists, photographs, and other user-generated content. Content should be genuine where it presents itself as genuine, respect other people, follow applicable law, respect privacy, avoid spam, fraud, and manipulation, and respect intellectual-property rights. Additional rules are contained in the Community Guidelines.

29. Content Ownership

You generally retain ownership of content that you create and upload. By uploading content, you grant Jigu Bites the licenses described in the Terms of Service so that we can operate the platform, display and distribute your content, improve the platform, moderate content, and promote Jigu Bites. You must have the rights necessary to grant this license.

30. Use of Public Content for Marketing

Jigu Bites may use publicly available user reviews, photographs, or other eligible content in Jigu Bites marketing and promotional activities, subject to applicable law and the rights granted under our Terms. This may include website promotion, social media, marketing campaigns, restaurant discovery campaigns, advertising about Jigu Bites, and editorial materials.

31. Content That May Be Removed

Jigu Bites may remove or restrict content that:

  • Violates these policies or is fraudulent or spam.
  • Manipulates ratings or contains threats.
  • Harasses others or reveals private information.
  • Infringes intellectual-property rights.
  • Contains illegal content.
  • Creates a significant security or safety concern.
  • Otherwise violates the Terms or Community Guidelines.

We may also restrict content where required by law.

32. Content That Is Not Automatically Removed

Jigu Bites does not automatically remove content merely because someone disagrees with it, finds it unfavorable or embarrassing, receives criticism, receives a negative rating, or believes a restaurant should have received a better rating. Legitimate criticism and differences of opinion are part of a review platform.

33. Businesses and Reputation

Jigu Bites understands that reviews can have a significant impact on restaurants. For that reason, we aim to distinguish between genuine criticism, honest mistakes, bad experiences, fraudulent reviews, coordinated manipulation, harassment, and serious policy violations. Restaurants are encouraged to use the official response and reporting mechanisms rather than attempting to retaliate against reviewers.

34. No Guaranteed Review Removal

Submitting a dispute does not guarantee that a review will be removed. Jigu Bites may determine that a review should remain available even when a restaurant strongly disagrees with it. Our goal is to maintain a useful and trustworthy review system rather than guarantee that every business receives only favorable content.

35. Appeals

Where an appeal process is available, users and businesses may request reconsideration of certain moderation decisions. Appeals should include relevant information and evidence. Jigu Bites may maintain internal records relating to appeals for security, moderation, and legal purposes.
